Considering how rarely Sheldon and his mother interacted in The Big Bang Theory, it is twice as frustrating to lose one of these moments because of the TBBT prequel.

Young Sheldon has long broken away from The Big Bang Theory. To some dedicated TBBT fans who are looking forward to the known canon twists and clever references to the parent show, some of the prequel's storylines may even feel disappointing.

Season 6 of Young Sheldon didn't help matters either. If anything, it has moved the show even further away from the original sitcom and created additional plotholes. One of these inconsistencies ruined a very emotional TBBT moment.

The moment was featured in Episode 12 of Season 10 titled The Holiday Summation.

A Disgusting Detail About Big Bang Theory Set Will Make Your Stomach Turn

In the episode, Sheldon and Amy go to Mary Cooper's house to celebrate Christmas and try to get her blessing on living together. Sheldon is hesitant to talk to Mary about his relationship with Amy because he doesn't want to listen to her religious lecture on sinning.

However, when the couple eventually confesses to living together in sin, Mary seems more relieved than angry. She says she is thrilled for her son who she thought would be alone forever. This revelation shocks and upsets adult Sheldon.

This was one of few times when the socially inept physicist truly showed how hurt he could be over other people's opinions of him. Unfortunately, this genuine heartbreaking moment was ruined by the Young Sheldon Season 6 fall finale. In the episode, Mary told young Sheldon how sure she was he would get married and have kids. It was actually the boy genius who very much doubted such a turn of events.

Did Kaley and Johnny's Friendship Survive the End of Big Bang Theory?

This is not the first time Young Sheldon changed the TBBT canon. In fact, each member of the Cooper family is very different from their version shown in The Big Bang Theory. The prequel focusing on the family instead of just young Sheldon has become the main reason for the audience to love it but also the main trigger for all the canon plot holes.

TBBT Mary is probably the most changed character in comparison to her Young Sheldon version. In The Big Bang Theory, she is much more religious and unintentionally offensive. Probably, the known future tragic events like George's cheating and death will eventually harden her and make her change views about Sheldon's future.
