This New Netflix Series With Friends Star Is a Must See for Desperate Housewives Fans
A charming crime dramedy starring Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano.
Netflix has released the series No Good Deed, in which Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow try to sell a house with a complicated history.
What Is No Good Deed About?
Three years ago, young Jacob Morgan was shot and killed in Los Angeles. His parents, Lydia and Paul, are having a hard time coping with the loss.
His mother no longer plays the piano, although she used to make money from music, leaves her son voicemail messages on his phone, and believes that his spirit has not left the walls of the house; his father, a former contractor, tries in every way to forget the loss.
The youngest daughter, Emily, has gone off to college and has stopped communicating with her mother and rarely speaks to her father on the phone. The family decides to sell their 1920s Spanish-style villa. The quiet neighborhood seems like paradise. Paul and Lydia do not tell potential buyers that a murder took place in the house.
No Good Deed Is Made in the Best Traditions of Desperate Housewives
No Good Deed was written and directed by Liz Feldman, the writer of another Netflix dark comedy, Dead to Me. In the best tradition of Desperate Housewives, Feldman's script mixes comedy, crime, drama, and eternal truths about family values.
The plot seems to be based on a detective intrigue about the death of the Morgans' son, but in fact, that line quickly fades into the background.
At the heart of the story is the pathological inability of all the characters to talk to each other. Innocent lies give rise to more and more inventions and eventually plunge the families into the abyss of absurdity. The accumulation of lies creates a new layer of reality in which anything can happen.
No Good Deed Is a Masterful Blend of Several Genres
Feldman manages to maintain a good balance between comedy and drama, without making the situations too absurd. Each character has their own pain, each of them is recognizable and worthy of sympathy. Except for the main villain, of course – but we will refrain from spoilers here.
No Good Deed will not surprise you with a fresh plot or genre finds. Nevertheless, it is a well-structured and professionally filmed dramedy in the best tradition of Desperate Housewives.
It even has its own Mrs. McCluskey – an old gossip who knows absolutely everything and is ready to stick her nose in every neighbor's business.
