A Disgusting Detail About Big Bang Theory Set Will Make Your Stomach Turn
Thanks to Kunal Nayyar, we now know something we'll never unlearn.
Most long-running shows have their share of secrets and dirty laundry, from your usual conflicts within the cast and the crew, to all sorts of funny mishaps, to lucky off-script improvisations by actors, to various unusual, bizarre and even revolting things which happened on their set. The Big Bang Theory is not an exception. And the secret we're going to talk about today probably belongs in the "revolting" category.
Do you remember those stairs connecting several floors in Sheldon and Leonard's apartment, up and down which various cast members walked in many scenes, thanks to the broken elevator? Well, first of all, there was only one set of stairs, with floors two to four in that apartment being the exact same floor. Scenery details were simply changed to make a set look like another floor for different shots.
And second, Johnny Galecki (Leonard) had a terrible habit of sticking his bubble gum against the wall, whenever he walked down that staircase – not just once or twice, but regularly.
As Kunal Nayyar (Raj) revealed about his fellow actor, "Down there is nothing, there's a wall there where Johnny Galecki, for 12 years, would stick his chewing gum on. I'm not joking." (via)
Well, that's just gross.
Nayar noted that "there's a wall of 3,000 dried chewing gum from Johnny Galecki." That might be an exaggeration, but one does not envy the person who eventually had to remove all that dried chewing gum.
Too bad that Galecki is probably not big enough of a star to try selling his dried chewing gum as souvenirs, as Kunal suggested.
"So if any of you are Johnny Galecki fans and you want his dried chewing gum, I am sure it's for sale somewhere on the internet. Welcome to Hollywood."
One wonders how a person can get a habit like this, or whether that was some sort of Galecki's nervous tick.
