How else can you explain the most popular show on TV which recently shattered more viewership records. The season five premiere of Yellowstone generated more than 12 million viewers despite criticism that the show is heading in the wrong direction, creatively.
Notwithstanding, Yellowstone is a gigantic success and has funneled several spin-off TV series. The creator of Yellowstone – Taylor Sheridan – has crafted a dynasty around his flagship show. In fact, Yellowstone has been successful enough to inspire several prequels with more still in development.

1883

The first Yellowstone prequel, 1883, arrived in 2021.
1883 is different from its predecessor in many regards, including the ability to watch on Paramount+. The western features a talented cast including Sam Elliot, Tim McGrew, and Faith Hill.
Taylor Sheridan created the series to explain how the Duttons came to own their land in Montana. As a result, the prequel takes place based on its year (1883), examining what life was like on the American Frontier in the late-19th century.
1883 only lasted one season and consisted of 10 episodes. The series is still available to stream on Paramount+.
1883: The Bass Reeves Story
1883: The Bass Reeves Story is a spin-off of the original, 1883 TV series. It's a little confusing since this series will not actually feature the Dutton family.
Rather, 1883: The Bass Reeves Story revolves around an actual lawman of the Wild West, Bass Reeves. The legendary cowboy was the first African-American U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi.
1883: The Bass Reeves Story is also rumored to draw inspiration from the Lone Ranger, another classic TV western. David Oyelowo (Selma) will take on the lead role with a cast that also features Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler on Yellowstone.
Unfortunately, Sheridan has yet to reveal when 1883: The Bass Reeves Story will debut. We anticipate 2023-2024.
1923
1923, as one might expect, begins where 1883 concludes. The new Yellowstone spin-off is set to arrive on December 18, 2022.
Accordingly, 1923 continues the storyline from 1883 with a new generation and list of characters. The Dutton family now has power and influence after acquiring their territory in Montana. There is not much that has been released about the story other than 1923 takes place during the time of western expansion, including the era of Prohibition and Great Depression.
For this reason, many diehard fans of Yellowstone anticipate that 1923 could transition into the best spin-off yet. Fans are already salivating at the opportunity to catch Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren on the same screen. The two Hollywood stars will assume the lead roles of Jacob Dutton and Cara Dutton.
1923 is slated to premiere December 18, exclusively on Paramount+.
6666
6666, otherwise known as "The Sixes", is another upcoming Yellowstone spin-off. The series, like 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, will not involve the Dutton family. Instead, 6666 is based on an actual ranch in West Texas.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new spin-off is designed to be a modern western (like Yellowstone) "where world class cowboys are born and made".
The new TV series will feature some shoutouts to Yellowstone, including Jefferson White (Jimmy) who is part of the cast of 6666. In season four, the young ranch hand from Yellowstone elects to leave Dutton Ranch for The Sixes in Texas.
