Forget How I Met Your Mother, These 3 Sitcoms’ Finales Are Way Worse
You never thought it was possible.
There are a lot of different shows that we love to watch over and over again, but the thing is, every time we rewatch, we just skip a few episodes because we can't stand the plot, or the guest stars, or even the behavior of our beloved main character. But when it comes to the end of the show, it seems like skipping a bad finale is not an option.
The thing is, it's not enough to create a compelling story and present it from the best angle. The trickiest part is giving viewers who have invested years in the show a proper send-off.
One of the best examples of a good show gone bad is How I Met Your Mother. There are only a few people who actually enjoyed the full circle of Ted and Robin's relationship, the rest of the audience just hates it. But it seems that there are sitcoms with even worse finales. For example, these 3.
1. Night Court (1984–1992)
Talk about a lame ending to a pretty entertaining sitcom... Night Court is a pretty old show that used to air on NBC and had a run of 9 seasons. The show follows a rather unorthodox young judge named Harry who ends up on the night shift of a Manhattan criminal court.
During the show's run, we see Harry and the team go through a lot of bizarre shenanigans. But there was also a lot of serious stuff going on. What makes the end of the show bittersweet is that you always want your main character to grow in some way.
But Harry, despite having many career opportunities thrown at him one after the other, ends up choosing the same bench. Now we know what commitment means, but it should not be so forced.
2. Two and a Half Men (2003–2015)
The finale of this popular and long-running show surprised fans with its rather absurd meta ending. The show revolves around its main characters Charlie, his brother Alan with his son, their mother Evelyn and several other eccentric characters as they all try to survive together.
In the two-part finale of the show, we learn that despite the fact that Alan and the team thought Charlie was dead, he was actually alive and right in front of us (but from behind), only to be killed by a piano dropped from a helicopter.
One minute later, we witness the same thing happening to Chuck Lorre on the set of the show. Fans were devastated to see this happen to their favorite character who hadn't been on the show for the past 4 seasons.
“All we wanted was for Charlie to come back for the night and maybe get a legitimate finale that tied up the loose ends. We know Charlie was interested in doing it. Instead we sat through a makeshift sequel to the Sheen roast and a whole lot of unfunny meta gags,” one Redditor said.
3. Family Matters (1989-1998)
Family Matters is a sitcom that aired on ABC for 8 seasons and then moved to CBS for the last season, which many of the fans still think was a huge mistake.
The show centers on the Winslow family with the addiction of Steve Urkel, the neighbor character, who was so well received by the audience that he went from guest star to main character. But the finale the writers chose for him is very questionable and sends mixed signals to the audience.
“I have a hot take that I enjoyed Steve Urkel for the most part even if he took over the show, I especially thought his inclusion enhanced parts when he was still new. But that ending just ain’t cutting it. I remember a whole episode dedicated to Carl having a nightmare about Steve and Laura getting married and yet that’s how the show ends,” Reddit user kingofknoledgereal said.
