Better watch TBBT or Young Sheldon again.

On October 17, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage premiered – a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.

The same Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland worked on the project, so fans were eagerly awaiting the release. However, it turns out that watching Georgie's life is not as much fun as watching the little genius Sheldon Cooper.

Young Sheldon Was Made in the Best Traditions of TBBT

Every popular project should have a number of seasons and then a spin-off. 10 years after The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon was released, about a little genius who went to school, lived with his family and took his first steps in scientific work.

Strange things started to happen to him even then, so it was incredibly exciting to see an ordinary family from Texas whose youngest son was able to write a landing plan for a real rocket before he turned 12.

The first spin-off gave us the same feeling and experience as the first title, allowing us to observe an eccentric geek who doesn't fit the mold. So what does Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage have to offer?

What Is Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage About?

The plot centers on the simplest guy, Georgie, instead of a genius with funny quirks. He works in a car repair shop to support his new family, his wife Mandy and their newborn daughter.

Not only does he have to live in the same house with his wife's relatives, but the problems of the past keep coming back to haunt him. His father's death, his mother's depression, his rebellious sister Missy's teenage years, and Sheldon's departure for college.

Georgie tries his best to stay afloat: to find common ground with his wife, to come to terms with his new situation and circumstances. Despite the fact that Georgie is a young father, he is still a teenager who had to drop out of school for the sake of his child.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Goes from Sitcom to Heavy Drama

Thus, a sitcom that is supposed to make you laugh begins to squeeze tears out of the viewer. Especially difficult are the moments when the main character starts to visit his father's grave to ask for advice or just to talk.

The point of no return is the Cooper family Thanksgiving, which ends in the cemetery next to the deceased George. The sitcom becomes a drama, and characters created only for the sake of humor, such as the mechanic at Mandy's father's company, look as unnatural as possible.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Lost the Main Thing TBBT & Young Sheldon Fans Loved

The problem is that the audience of the first two shows loved characters who didn't fit into society and who were constantly creating funny, awkward situations. In the new spin-off all the characters are too simple and understandable.

Therefore, the series is unlikely to interest fans of the franchise, and a new audience will not be able to enter it without some background. In the series, no one explains how Georgie and Mandy met and got married, when and from what Cooper Sr. died, and who all these people are.

Even those who stopped watching Young Sheldon in the early seasons will not be able to enter the new sitcom without asking a number of questions.

Perhaps if Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage was released in a non-comedy format and explained the characters' pasts without leaving them as flat cardboard cutouts, it could hook a potential viewer. But for now – sadly – the sitcom is not worth wasting time on.
