Zoe Saldana Stars in 4 Out of 6 Movies That Ever Crossed $2 Billion
And in all four movies, she plays an alien warrior with weird skin color.
Did you know that only six films in history have crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office? The most recent is of course James Cameron 's Avatar: The Way of Water, which premiered in December last year and hit the mark on Sunday after tallying almost $1.5 billion from foreign markets. It is currently the sixth highest-grossing film of all time, but its run continues, so The Way of Water has every chance of moving up the rankings.
Avatar 2 is the third James Cameron film to reach the $2 billion mark. The other two were 2009's original Avatar, which currently holds the status of highest grossing film, and 1997's Titanic, which was the first film in history to reach the $1 billion mark.
The other three $2 billion movies are 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the two latest installments in Marvel's Avengers franchise, Infinity War and Endgame. Looking at all six titles, viewers found some pretty interesting patterns.
Aside from obvious commonalities like five of the six top-grossing films featuring aliens and Disney owning three $2 billion franchises, there were some unexpected observations. Some fans noted that statistically, if you start your movie title with an "Av," you probably will make $2 billion. Also, four of the six movies were released in December. That can't be a coincidence, can it?
But the funniest common denominator that many fans noted was Zoe Saldana, who starred in four of the six $2 billion films. In the Avatar films, Saldana played Neytiri, a fierce Na'vi warrior with bows. In the MCU, she portrays Gamora, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the adopted daughter of Thanos, an ex-assassin and warrior.
Fans jokingly noted that it is not enough to cast Saldana for a movie to make it successful. It seems she needs to play a colored-skinned alien warrior. After all, Neytiri has blue skin, and Gamora is all-green. One fan even wrote a short but comprehensive instruction for all filmmakers:

Step 1: Have title start with "Av"
Step 2: Hire Zoe Saldana
Step 3: Make her a colored alien
Step 4: Money"
