Two Actors Christopher Nolan Believes Are the Greatest of All Time
Hint: both of them are members of Oppenheimer's cast.
The anticipation for Oppenheimer continues to grow as fans eagerly await the release of long-awaited trailer alongside Avatar 2 theatrical rollout. Christopher Nolan 's upcoming film boasts a cast filled with big-name actors, and the acclaimed director believes that he has secured the talents of two of the greatest actors of all time.
In an interview with Total Film, Nolan opened up about actors who, according to him, are worthy of the GOAT title. Both of them are in Oppenheimer: Robert Downey Jr and Cillian Murphy.
"I've always known since I first met him – however many years ago it is now, almost 20 years – that he is one of the great actors, not just of his generation, but of all time," Nolan said of Murphy, revealing that it was a great pleasure for him to be able to call the actor and offer the role with a "cinematic burden" big enough for someone like Murphy to carry.
Regarding Downey Jr, Nolan also referred to him as "one of the great movie stars" and "one of the greatest actors of all time."
"Watching him lose himself in that performance, and completely lose himself in a character in this way, was just an incredible reminder of just what an amazing actor he is," the director added.
In the movie that tells the story of the iconic American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who is dubbed the "father of the atomic bomb", Cillian Murphy portrays the titular character, and Downey Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, an American businessman who was closely involved in the making of the nuclear weapons.
Nolan Recreated a Nuclear Weapon Explosion Without CGI in Oppenheimer
One of the outstanding things about the upcoming Nolan movie is how the director refrained from using CGI in recreating a nuclear explosion in the movie. Dedicated to practical effects, Nolan appears to be on track to making history once again, as Oppenheimer remains to be one of the most anticipated movies to come out.
Oppenheimer will hit theaters on July 21, 2023.
