This Grey's Anatomy Character Had the Worst Send Off, According to Reddit
With an astonishing 19 seasons to date, the legacy medical drama Grey's Anatomy is one of the longest-running and has been one of the most popular ABC shows to date.
The success of the show can be credited to the intriguing medical cases, the drama inside and outside the operating room, and the complicated daily lives of the doctors as they try to balance their work and social lives.
Speaking of doctors, the show simply wouldn't be the same without their cast.
Having run for more than 15 years, the show has seen many characters come and go. Whether it is the choice of the actor or simply the script for the character, seeing a favorite doctor leave the show is always difficult for fans, even more so when they do not get the exit they deserve.
The Most Annoying Character on Grey's Anatomy is Just Too Extra
Grey's Anatomy fans took to Reddit to vent about a recent character departure. Unlike many over the years, this character was not killed off, but fans found their sendoff even more upsetting.
The character in question is Alex Karev. The actor who played Karev, Justin Chambers, had already announced his exit from the show. Fans were aware that he was leaving, the question was when, and more importantly, how?
Reading through comments on Reddit, it's quite clear that although fans had accepted the "why," they were very unhappy with the "how".
Alex Karev was one of the original characters in Grey's Anatomy and was with the show for an amazing 16 seasons. Over that time his character grew and developed, from initially being disliked by fellow characters to forming strong friendships and a rather rocky relationship with fellow surgeon Jo Wilson.
The One Grey's Anatomy Scene That Changed The Show Completely
After all of this character development, his final episode aired, where it was revealed that he had left the hospital to go and be with Izzie, his ex-girlfriend from earlier seasons. Fans found out that Izzie had given birth to and raised two children through IVF that were biologically his. After everything he and Jo had gone through, he leaves her to be a family man with his ex-girlfriend.
Fans on Reddit called this the worst character exit in the history of the show, and some went as far as to say that it would have been better if he had died. They felt that his exit ruined years and years of work that had gone into building his character and it was not something he would have done.
All he left were letters explaining what had happened and why he had chosen to leave. His end was called disappointing and underwhelming, and Redditors have pointed out that for a show about dedicated, brilliant doctors, very few of the characters have left the hospital to pursue their careers, making this move unrealistic for Alex Karev, and leaving fans feeling that his character was essentially ruined.
