The Most Annoying Character on Grey's Anatomy is Just Too Extra
Over the years Grey's Anatomy fans have been introduced to many new characters, some who they instantly love, and others who are really difficult to like for a variety of different reasons.
Amelia Shepherd, portrayed by Caterina Scorsone, appeared in earlier seasons as a special guest and joined the show full-time in season 11 as one of the main characters and the sister-in-law to star surgeon Meredith Grey. Her brother Derek passes away after a tragic accident in the same season.
In the beginning, fans are in awe of the aspiring neurosurgeon with a clear wild side and disdain for authority, but her role as the "cool doctor" is short-lived as she battles her drug addiction and tries to cope with the loss of her brother.
Fans on Reddit initially sympathized with her as she struggled to maintain her sobriety, but her character quickly became annoying and tiresome. She quickly develops a mean streak and takes her anger out on those closest to her. She is dramatic and hard to reason with, refusing the help of friends and family even though she needed it.
Grey's Anatomy never fails to deliver drama, and Amelia is diagnosed with a brain tumor, which is to blame for her erratic behavior and string of poor life choices. However, even after the tumor is removed she continues to have mood swings and lash out at others.
The One Grey's Anatomy Scene That Changed The Show Completely
Fans of the show have taken to Reddit to point out that although she has gone through a lot, having lost her baby, her boyfriend, and her brother, other characters have dealt with much worse. Fans cannot handle how she invalidates the feelings of those around her. To make things worse, Amelia is known for leading men on and then turning herself into the victim trapped in a relationship. She did the same thing to both Link and Owen.
In their frustration, some Redditors have referred to her as a neurosurgeon with no brains, and others agree that after everything she shouldn't be able to practice medicine.
On the other hand, there are a few die-hard Amelia fans online that love her messy character and feel that she is someone to who they can relate, having also battled with addiction.
Perhaps there is hope for the pretty eccentric Doctor Amelia Shepherd if she would just tone down her outbursts, stop disappearing for days when she doesn't know how to handle a situation, and perhaps just be slightly less annoying in the eyes of viewers. After all, she is a talented surgeon with a good heart, she's just never sure how to express it.
