Severance Season 2’s Heartbreaking Start for Irving Has Fans in Tears
We’d give everything to make his pain go away.
No one will deny that the wait for Severance ’s part two was a real torture. AppleTV+ dropped the first chapter of this masterpiece in 2022 and created an army of fans, and now we can finally return to our favorite TV take on work-life balance.
Severance Season 2 Episode 1: What Happened?
It begins with Adam Scott's Mark coming out of the elevator looking very confused and then rushing through the same futuristic corridors trying to find something that will help him make sense of what is going on. It takes him a while to figure out that his old team is gone and he is stuck with some new weirdos.
So Mark basically forces the Board to bring Dylan, Helly, and Irving back. And even though Mr. Milchick told him it wouldn't work (oh yeah, he's the new Cobel now), the next thing we knew, all four of them were back together again.
The first to arrive was Dylan, who looked confused but happy to be reunited with Mark. Then came Irv, and the last to come out of the same elevator was Helly. Her arrival on the floor seemed strange, she was just too calm and ready, but we can't say the same about Irv...
The man kept screaming Burt's name and was basically ready to break down the elevator doors to get out. He looked shocked and confused, but also absolutely devastated. The rest of the group tried to talk to him to find out what was going on, but he wouldn't say a word, just rushed off for a walk. But that was not what he had in mind.
What Happened to Irving in Season 2?
The truth is, as he later revealed to Dylan, he found out that the love of his life, Burt, was actually married and living a happy life in the outside world. And that was something innie Irv couldn't live with. Determined to kill himself, he rushed to the exit, knowing full well what that would lead to.
But thanks to Dylan, who fortunately made it clear to Irv how much he meant to the team and to Burt, Irv decided to stay. And the amazing little details John Turturro used to show his character's change of heart and mind are just outstanding.
“Knowing he was so devastated that he'd rather kill Innie Irv With All The Feelings than live as his outie without Burt? That he effectively wished he was dead?? Severance seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on AppleTV+. New episodes of season 2 are scheduled to arrive on the platform every Friday. It means episode 2 will premiere on Apple TV on January 24.
