Jim Carrey Weighs in on Robotnik’s Possible Return in Sonic The Hedgehog 4
The actor’s retirement plans are no longer in consideration, as we can see.
Jim Carrey has been off the screen for quite some time before eventually returning as mad scientist Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog animated franchise — and it seems like the actor has no other option but to return to his villainous role at least once more.
The franchise’s third instalment hit the cinemas back in December, garnering rave reviews from both critics and viewers and promising bright future for further sequels, yet it seemingly gave a definite closure to Robotnik’s story — or probably not.
Sonic the Hedgehog Writers Had a Reason to Offer Robotnik a Definite Finale
Considering all the buzz created by the news that Jim Carrey is done with cinema, Pat Casey and Josh Miller had to come up with a plan which would simultaneously let the actor finish his career, but also allow the franchise to live on.
As writers shared in an interview with Screen Rant ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s release last month, what they really wanted was to give Carrey’s character a satisfying closure while also making his story complete. However, Casey and Miller specified that, even though Robotnik is “definitely dead,” he still might be back in case he somehow managed to survive.
Jim Carrey Doesn’t Mind Reviving Robotnik
While Pat Casey and Josh Miller are more than eager to bring the character back to life, Carey does seem to be on board, too. The actor claimed that he’s definitely “open to the idea” and is now waiting for the writers’ call, yet he’ll accept the offer only if there’s something truly interesting and funny in what will happen next.
Additionally, a big portion of encouragement Carey gets from his and the franchise’s fans — according to him, “there's a lot of really great energy around it, great responses, and the fans jump in and say, "How about if you do this?" They've been super helpful. I think we're all making this movie together.”
