ABC’s High Potential Dropped a Few Twin Peaks Easter Eggs and You Didn’t Notice
Now we’re even more obsessed.
When a new crime drama comes out on any platform, you don't think twice about tuning in. It just works that way! So don't mind us telling you why you should watch ABC's High Potential if you haven't already.
First of all, who doesn't love a good old show about a unique mind that works the way no one else's does? The hero of this show is Morgan, a newly single mom who, because of her condition called "high intellectual potential," couldn't handle a steady job. She becomes a cleaning woman for the LAPD, but after a while, she ends up as a consultant, basically solving their cases for them.
The show is still in its first season, and every episode of it is full of amazing plot twists, but episode 8 turned out to be a standout, and here's why. The episode is called Obsessed and it starts with a body being found on a beach. Sound familiar? If not, let us remind you that's this is how the masterpiece series Twin Peaks was created by the amazing director, the late David Lynch.
The best part is, if it weren't for the rest of the episode, we probably wouldn't notice the reference. But then we saw something else that reminded us of Twin Peaks.
High Potential Episode 8 Is Stuffed With Nods to David Lynch’s Masterpiece
The guest star of the episode was Dana Ashbrook, the famous Bobby Briggs we all love from the iconic series. He appeared as Morris, Penny's new boyfriend, who she believes is a potential suspect in the murder of her fiancé.
Then there was another Easter egg when we saw the billboard with the sign "Who Killed Lucas Phillips?” Of course, every Lynch fan knows that's a reference to the Who Killed Laura Palmer sign. Apparently, the entire episode can be considered one huge nod to Twin Peaks.
“Giving this 10/10 simply for all the delicious Twin Peaks references. Body found on a beach. Dana Ashbrook guest stars. Who Killed Lucas Phillips? Blue Rose painting. Sleazy brothers operating a club. Drugs. This was a delightful return to a show that I have come to look forward to every week. So glad to see it back,” commented one IMDb user in their review.
High Potential is available to stream on Hulu.
