Anora No Longer an Oscars Darling, Dethroned by New Potential Record Breaker
Sean Baker’s drama spent months as a number one contender for Hollywood’s most wanted award.
The Oscars ceremony is still a month and a half away, but the first predictions have been in for quite a long time, yet something shifted during the last several days.
Out of all potential winners of the Oscars’ Best Picture, Sean Baker’s Anora has been keeping the first place on all possible lists ever since last September — the movie being favoured by the critics is surely an after-effect of Anora’s triumph in several festivals and awards ceremonies during those last 5 months.
However, things changed, though not significantly — the film is still one of the frontrunners for the Oscars, yet the first place is now taken by another potential big winner.
Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist Is Now the Critics’ Favorite in the Oscars Race
According to the latest report from World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy, the epic period drama starring Adrien Brody as a Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth now has the most chances to win big at the upcoming ceremony — including the award for the best movie of the year.
If the stars in fact align for The Brutalist at the next Oscars, and the movie is granted with the statuette for Best Picture, it will set a new impressive record, becoming one of the lengthiest movies (215 minutes) to ever win the biggest prize of the ceremony.
Earlier the award for Best Picture was also given to other record breakers like Lawrence of Arabia, which is 228 minutes long, and Gone With the Wind (238 minutes).
Anora Is Still in Top-3 of the Potential Winners
Despite the slight changes, Sean Baker’s drama still has solid chances to compete for the main prize — Anora currently sits on the second place on the list and is followed by Conclave, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked.
According to what the insiders got from the critics, the first four movies are the only real frontrunners for Best Picture. The Oscars ceremony is set to take place on March 2, though the event might be rescheduled due to devastating fires encircling Hollywood’s home, Los Angeles.
