One Virgin River Season 4 Plot Twist Was Insanity Personified
As any Virgin River fan will know, this romantic drama loves to serve cliffhangers, and season 4 was no different.
From Calvin's death to Charmaine lying to Jack about the paternity of the twins, the showrunners sure kept fans on their toes throughout the entire season. However, there was one plot twist that was so crazy that even the viewers couldn't believe it actually happened!
First off, let's recap what led up to the insane moment in question.
It was episode 9 of season 4 when Mel's late husband Mark's sister Stacie was in the area and wanted to meet up with her for dinner. Considering their complicated past (mainly how rude the sister-in-law always was towards Mel), this invitation seemed fishy at first. However, their meeting took an unexpected turn when Stacie apologized for what she had done to her in the past, even admitting it was inappropriate to ask Mel for her wedding ring.

But as they were walking out of the restaurant, Stacie dropped a bombshell that Mark's mother had hired lawyers to try to seek custody of Mel and Mark's last two embryos, which Mark had apparently told her about. Turns out, she got an idea to hire a surrogate and raise Mark's kid, which is so insane that we were all left speechless. But here's the kicker – remember when Mel and Jack were on a break, and she decided to access those embryos and got pregnant in the end but wasn't sure who the father was?
Yeah, there's that little problem.
However, the troubles didn't end there. In light of the news, Mel decided to meet up with the former mother-in-law herself. As the woman is clearly unhinged, she openly confirmed her crazy plan and justified it with the desire for Mark's legacy to live on. And as if that wasn't enough, she also revealed that the attorney she hired had discovered through a private investigator that Mel had used the embryos.
Fans' Virgin River Season 5 Predictions May Be Setting the Bar Too High
If the baby turned out to be Mark's, this could potentially lead to a court battle for the custody of her child.
Fortunately, by the end of season 4, our minds were put at ease when it was revealed that Jack was, in fact, the father of their baby girl. And the last scene of the final episode didn't disappoint either, with Jack finally proposing to Mel.
