Despite an already eventful fourth season, Virgin River showrunners managed to keep the viewers at the edges of their seats all the way to the end, leaving us with plenty of cliffhangers and many unanswered questions.

But what could be awaiting us in season 5? Not much has been revealed yet but fans have been making countless speculations and sharing their exciting predictions on Reddit. But while they might be intriguing indeed, could they be setting the bar too high?

Mel Being Kidnapped

Redditors speculate Mel may not only be in danger in the upcoming season but also kidnapped. They suggest this could take place after Jack refuses to work with Melissa, who'll most likely be the mastermind behind the kidnapping. That said, they do expect Jack to save the day, of course.

A Time Jump to Christmas

Jack's Cheesy Compliments is a Total Overkill on Virgin River

Many fans believe the next season will start out with a time jump from Christmas, or that a time jump will at least occur at some point during the season. Considering how much the showrunners love to deliver a slow burn to the dismay of many, this would definitely be a welcome change. But regardless of the timing, fans are looking forward to a Virgin River Christmas.

Mike and Brie Getting Closer

Viewers are convinced and, dare we say, hopeful that Brady's character arc could be coming to an end and that Mike is going to make his move. As Brie and Mike form a relationship in the books, fans have been waiting for a while now, hoping that the adaptation will follow this storyline.

The predictions are undoubtedly compelling and if they do take place, we're in for a wild ride this upcoming season. However, these expectations may be setting the bar a tad too high, and there are a few reasons why.

First, there have been no mentions of a time jump coming as soon as the viewers would like. In fact, incoming showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has teased that the upcoming season will pick up where the last one left off and there will be no time jump between the seasons.

"There is a lot going on, and it took me a while to get my head around what [the characters have] all been through, where they're heading and where I'd like them to go. I wanted it to be as seamless as possible," he explained to TVLine.

As for Mike and Brie, we don't know how many seasons the show will run for yet, but some fans think that in order for Mike and Brie to form a deep relationship, the showrunners should've started the love story much sooner than this. So, it's hard to tell what they have in store for us at the moment.
