Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Fired His Whole Team While Filming GoT and Lost Millions
It seems that firing the agent could be the mistake that significantly damaged the state of the actor's career.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau became a world-famous actor thanks to his role as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones. This role brought him not only fame and the love of millions of fans, but also sky-high salaries.
However, Game of Thrones ended in 2019, and in the four years since the finale of the series, the actor has not received a main role in any other major project, and perhaps the reason for this is that the actor fired his agent along with the team while still filming Game of Thrones.
Coster-Waldau worked with Jill Littman and her team of Impression Entertainment, and it was then that he landed the starring role of his career as Jaime Lannister.
It would seem that an agent who helped you get a role in the biggest show of our time should be kept by your side, but at some point Nikolaj decided to continue his acting career on his own.
In 2015, the actor released a statement saying that he was leaving Jill Littman not because he decided to change agents, but because he decided to manage his own affairs.
And the story could have ended there, but two years later, Littman and the company began demanding large sums of money from Nikolaj, and in fact had the right to do so.
In response, the actor sued Jill Littman, accusing her of fraud.
Initially, Nikolaj, who had not yet become an international TV star, and Jill verbally agreed that the actor would pay the agent 10% of his fees. But later, she convinced the actor to sign a formal agreement, which she claimed the actor did voluntarily.
Waldau categorically denied this, arguing that he was forced to sign the papers in 2011, and the contract was renewed in 2014. And according to him, this agreement is fake because he was not in control of the situation due to his inexperience.
Jill insisted that legal documents would bring him a number of conveniences, in particular, the agency will help with work visas.
Unfortunately for the actor, in 2018 the court did not side with him – the arbitration ruled that Coster-Waldau had to pay Littman and Impression Entertainment about $2 million.
Thus, firing Littman cost Nikolaj dearly both in terms of finances and in terms of his career – it is not known what success the actor would have achieved with an agent, but it is obvious that without her his career returned to the pre-Game of Thrones period, if not worse.
