Squid Game Season 3 Release Date & What Will Happen in the Final Chapter?

On December 26, all seven episodes of Season 2 of Squid Game were released on Netflix. The season got an open ending with a hint to the already approved Season 3. It will be the last one.

Which games did author Hwang Dong-hyuk prepare for the ending and how will Gi-hun's story be continued?

What Will Happen to Gi-hun in Season 3?

By Episode 7, Gi-hun had gathered a team of allies. He was joined by his best friend Jung-bae and In-ho, who pretended to be an ordinary player. Gi-hun and his partners took the machine guns from the guards and went in search of the organizers.

However, In-ho tricked them and killed Jung-bae. The villain's assistants shot the rest of Gi-hun's friends who were with him at the time.

In season 3 of Squid Game, Gi-hun will continue to play deadly games. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said that in the new episodes, Gi-hun will feel guilty for the death of his friends.

Gi-hun will also be affected by the fact that he failed. He might be inclined to think that it is useless to fight against the system. Therefore, the survivors will have to cheer up the depressed Gi-hun somehow, because he, as the winner of the previous games, can make sure that more people survive this time.

It will be more difficult for Gi-hun to lead the team – after the shootout in the Season 2 finale, many of his opponents survived. According to the rules of the game in Season 2, all participants were divided into "crosses" and "zeros" – they vote against and for the continuation of the game, respectively. The "zeroes" did not participate in Gi-hun's plan, so they survived.

How Will Jun-Ho Find the Island?

Jun-ho spent all three years after the events of Season 1 trying to find the island where the games took place. The policeman was helped by his savior Captain Park. However, in Episode 7 of Season 2 it was confirmed that Park was a traitor.

He is probably working for the Front Man, who asked the fisherman to save his brother and keep him away from the island. Park wanted to do something with the drone of Jun-ho's group – probably disable it or reprogram it.

It was Park who hindered Jun-ho in his search. The policeman began to suspect that there was a mole among his followers. In season 3, Jun-ho will probably expose Park and force him to show where the games are being held.

What Games Will Be In Season 3?

In the post-credits scene of the Season 2 finale, one of the Season 3 games was teased. The creators showed us a puppet from the game Red Light, Green Light. It was joined by a new doll – a male one.

The scene also showed a train traffic light. Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted that this will be the biggest game of Season 3. Maybe we should expect a more complicated version of Red Light, Green Light or a completely new game – for example with trains.

There are six games in total – since three were shown in Season 2, there will be three more challenges in Season 3.

Season 3 Release Date

The final Season 3 of Squid Game will be released in 2025. Hwang Dong-hyuk stated that the premiere should be expected in the summer or fall.
