Netflix's Stranger Things Substitute Will Most Likely Bomb Hard

Apparently, Netflix is somewhat giving up on Stranger Things.

It's understandable considering Millie Bobby Brown 's intent to leave the franchise after season 5, and even surprising as such popular series are typically milked until there's nothing left.

But apart from the potential movie, Netflix is seemingly wrapping Stranger Things up now.

But if that's the case, then they are in desperate need to replace one of their best franchises with a new one — and the choice has been made as we recently learned.

A couple of days ago, famous insider Divinity Seeker revealed what Netflix's new bet is: it's a live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The series was announced quite some time ago, but while it was supposed to come out this year, it's been postponed until 2024.

Netflix wants this new franchise to "spawn multiple seasons and hopefully multiple spin-offs, and be a huge driver of subscriptions", according to Divinity Seeker.

For this, they claim, Netflix pumped a ton of money into the first season.

At the first glance, this doesn't seem like a bad idea at all: the first and only live-action remake completely flopped, and it would be really hard to lose in comparison to it.

But if you think about it, one of the reasons why the first remake was accepted so cooly was because it was being compared to the original cartoon series.

Netflix will have to go through the same judgment, and it's a really, really harsh one to pass. Proper live-action adaptations are borderline impossible to achieve — ask Disney about it.

Apart from that, another big obstacle would be the actors' age. The main characters are kids, and they age really slowly in the original series.

This cartoonish trick will not work in the real world: such shows take a really long time to make, and kid actors will be noticeably aging between the seasons.

According to Divinity Seeker, Netflix is hoping to bypass these limitations by simply casting very young actors, but it's a questionable strategy.

Also, the insider claims, their script isn't very faithful to the original series which allows for some liberties age-wise… And brings up yet another issue — the rage of the most loyal fans.

Overall, we're really not sure if Netflix's new project will work out just as well as the company hopes.

There are many obstacles in their way, and the main thing is that Stranger Things became incredibly popular despite Netflix's original expectations.

It was a one-time unique miracle, and attempting to clone it may very well prove useless.
