Kaley Cuoco Sides With Fans Over Big Bang Theory Ending Backlash

Not only because it marked the end of their favorite show. There was one particular storyline that seemed especially rushed and badly executed — that of Penny getting pregnant with Leonard's child after she stated multiple times during the season that she doesn't want to have kids.

In the Reddit thread dedicated to the series finale fans were going on and on expressing their disappointment with the ending. "Why are they ruining all my series?" cries one fan. While another states: "I think that once the series gave voice to all those women that choose not to have kids regardless of other people's opinion, they shouldn't have taken that b need to get pregnant to get a happy ending?"

Cringiest Big Bang Theory Moment Fans Still Can't Get Over

As it turns out Kaley Cuoco who played Penny on the show, couldn't agree more. In Jessica Radloff's new book, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, Cuoco admitted:

"I actually wished that they did not [make Penny pregnant], because I loved that message [of Penny not wanting kids] so much. It was cute how the writers did it at the end with Penny's surprise pregnancy, and all in all, I'm glad, but I was actually voting for her not to [get pregnant]."

It is hard to argue that the decision to completely ignore Penny's own wishes just to give the viewers the soapy romantic and cliched happy end may seem inappropriate. But there is one thing: Penny has never expressed not wanting kids in the first 11 seasons of the show and through all the years of her rocky relationships with Leonard.

Her road to accepting the kids and family was supposed to be the theme of the 13th season. The season never happened because Jim Parsons refused to return to the role of Sheldon and called it quits. Had it happened, there would be plenty of time to perfectly wrap up Penny's story and show how she gradually changed her mind.
