Joker 2 Early Reviews Debunk the Most Controversial Part About the Movie
The first reactions are in — and they got fans even more excited for the most anticipated premiere of the year.
Summary:
- It’s still quite a long time till Joker: Folie á Deux comes to cinemas worldwide, but some people have already seen it — and now share their opinions.
- Most of the audience praises Lady Gaga ’s fantastic performance as Harley Quinn by saying that she stays on the same level with Joaquin Phoenix ’s Joker.
- The film doesn’t seem to be that much of a musical as it was promised to be, but the music itself is still in there.
There are still several months till Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie á Deux will finally hit cinemas across the globe, but some people were lucky enough to see it much more in advance. Apparently, there was a film test screening that took place several days ago and now the first viewers shared their thoughts.
In short — everything is great. Joey Monda, known as a huge Joker universe fan, has posted in his social media a brief recap of what there was to say about the upcoming movie.
According to this, the spotlight was given not really to Joaquin Phoenix who portrays Joker, but rather to Lady Gaga who also got a leading role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel (aka Harley Quinn) — a heroine who goes from being a psychiatrist to eventually becoming a supervillain and Joker’s ally and girlfriend.
As Monda says, Gaga and Phoenix’s performances are on the same level — which is a huge compliment to the former who’s initially very experienced in the music industry and has been in the cinema world for a relatively short time, though already succeeded to bring some strong performances to the screen.
Another peculiar observation mentioned in the post is that the film is “is super bloody, chaotic, aggressive, surrealistic, but somehow true to its essence.” Nonetheless, viewers think it won’t impede the movie to become another hit not only for the public, but also for the critics who may consider Joker 2 as a strong competitor in the next awards season.
Is Joker 2 Really a Musical?
Still, the movie’s musical status seems to be decidedly debunked by the first viewers: people say the music itself doesn’t appear in the film as much as it could (be it a musical), but the characters still sing together or one at a time using the repertoire of old and new songs.
Though there’s some part of the audience’s interest that has finally been satisfied, fans’ theories will definitely go wild for quite a long time — Joker: Folie á Deux is set to be released in theaters on October 4.
