Jared Padalecki Ready to Bring Back Supernatural — Under One Huge Condition
Padalecki is “really eager” to revive his iconic show but only if his vision is respected.
Supernatural fans haven’t been the same since their favorite TV show ended in 2020, and even Jensen Ackles ’s attempt to revive it with The Winchesters didn’t help. The prequel series just didn’t hit the same because it wasn’t the same, but there’s a cure for (nearly) every disease: to bring back the thrill and vibe of Supernatural, they simply need to bring back Supernatural itself!
Lead star Jared Padalecki is not only down for it but claims the revival is a matter of fact. Apparently, he and Ackles have long planned it, and they’ll get to work soon.
Padalecki Confirmed the Supernatural Revival
Previously, we shared the lead star’s original revelation about the return of the iconic series. Speaking with CBR, Padalecki shared that he and Jensen Ackles had always kept such an opportunity in mind, and furthermore, they had an exact date for when to start work on the Supernatural revival. It’s happening, and that’s just a solid fact.
“The simple answer is 100%. I will play Sam Winchester again. Jensen will play Dean Winchester again. <...> When we realized somebody might want more, we said, ‘2025. In 2020, we're ending this. Let's get together in five years and see what Sam and Dean are up to,’” the actor shared back then.
Padalecki Has One Big Condition for the Revival
The lead star doesn’t treat the return to his iconic franchise as an unconditional no-brainer. With the appropriate love and respect for the TV show, he wants it to be an additional piece to the story that won’t compromise the previous 15 years. In other words, he wants a conclusion, not another (pointless) years-long run.
“I don't want to do another 5 years of Supernatural; I am dying to do a reboot of Supernatural akin to the Gilmore Girls reboot. Here are four one-and-a-half-hour episodes. We'll shoot it in three months. [We planned for 2025,] which is next year. <...> [Jensen] and I are both really eager to do it,” Padalecki explained on the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast.
We’re currently five months away from 2025, and if both Ackles and Padalecki are thrilled to reprise their roles, it’s almost definitely happening. And the lead star’s condition makes a lot of sense: not only would such a format allow for a more meaningful and coherent conclusion, but it’s also more likely to secure funding.
We’re so sat down for this.
