If You Still Think Glee's Worst Character Was Rachel Berry, You Need a Rewatch

If you were a Gleek back in the 2010s, you probably have your own hefty pile of unpopular opinions about the shows that have formed over the years. Although the ironic nature of the show is pretty obvious to anyone who watches it now, the lack of media literacy among the generally young audience back then made Glee a very dangerous piece to watch.

While the general idea behind the show of being more open-minded, broadening your worldview, and allowing yourself to just be yourself against all odds is great, the execution is what made many people raise their eyebrows.

The teacher, who is much more comfortable with his students than any teacher should be. The cheerleading coach, who is known to be physically and emotionally abusive. The caricatures of the famous movie tropes merged into the main teenage characters.

This was the bunch the audience had to choose their favorites from, and as it seems now, whatever choice they made was doomed to be the wrong one from the start. What no one had trouble with was picking the worst of the bunch, as many gravitated towards the loud, arrogant, and bossy Rachel Berry.

Artie Abrams Is In Fact Glee’s Worst Character

However, there was one character who had said and done much worse things than Rachel. In fact, pretty much everyone on the show had, but this particular person was rarely shown to be even remotely remorseful for what he'd done. It's time to admit that Artie Abrams was the biggest threat to New Directions and remained so until the very end of the show.

No disrespect to Kevin McHale, who did an amazing job portraying the character, but it seems that Artie was hated the most by the writers.

From being a jerk to all of his girlfriends to disregarding someone's feelings about sexual assault, to feeling entitled to give unsolicited advice about his friends' intimate lives, Artie reads like a character who belongs on Reddit, not a TV screen.

And if you thought he was bad at McKinley High, he was even worse after school. When he moved to New York, Artie, like many small-town kids, let himself go, but he was never educated enough to use protection.

As a result, he spread STDs to half the city, which may be the lowest point a Glee character has ever hit.
