Here's Why Landman Fans Hate Rebecca Falcone
The finale’s plot twist made it all even worse.
Landman has just concluded its first season amid all the rumours about the second one coming up, and the show managed to receive a worldwide recognition even with some big issues constantly pointed out by numerous fans.
The series is yet to confirm whether it will eventually have a longer run, but viewers are seemingly done with the show considering how much hatred one of the leading characters is currently getting — which, sadly, isn’t the only problem in Landman.
Rebecca’s Plot Twist Doesn’t Align With Her Character in Landman
In the show, Rebecca was quick to show herself as not the best character and, honestly, not the best human being either. As a lawyer, she is hired to wipe out the tracks of illegal fracking which later on results in the death of the oil company’s workers.
Rebecca then tries to manipulate the victims’ families, taking them into having a deal with her while also giving them the lowest moral compensation possible. However, things change in the first season’s finale where the character is seen suddenly getting aware of all the harm the oil company has caused to nature.
Such a plot twist was the last thing Landman’s fans ever expected — and even though Rebecca’s change of mind might feel like a good thing, the abrupt revelation did seem to be rushed and out of place. Reddit quickly labeled the twist a “major eye roll scene.” It’s not only about one scene — the character just seems to lack consistency.
“She’s the all-purpose foil. In every scene she’s in, she’s there purely to give other characters something to push back against. This means she’s constantly shifting positions to fit the argument, and as a result she’s wildly inconsistent,” said Redditor Gus_Smedstad.
Rebecca Isn’t the Only Problematic Character in Landman
In fact, this is what fans have been saying about all the female leads — including Demi Moore’s character who, despite being one of the main stars, hasn’t said more than 5-6 lines throughout the entire run of the first season.
Even though Rebecca does seem to be a major player in the whole plot, her character also falls flat, with some fans even calling her insufferable. Be that as it may, the only person fans are putting the blame on is Landman’s creator and writer Taylor Sheridan, with many already claiming “half of [his] characters make no sense.”
