5 Worst Mistakes That Ruined Squid Game 2 for Fans
Was it even worth the wait?
When a show becomes extremely popular with fans and critics, it's only a matter of time before the creators announce that another season is on the way. But the thing is, it's a double-edged sword, because while you want more of what you liked so much, you have a nagging feeling that it could all lead to huge disappointment.
Looks like it’s exactly what happened with Squid Game season 2. When the first part of the show arrived on Netflix in 2021, it became an instant hit. It is still the most watched show on the platform. Fans loved it so much that they couldn't wait for another season. And now, 4 years later, they seem to be sorry that ever happened.
Squid Game 2 has lower ratings than its predecessor, and fans still can't stop bombing Reddit with their comments about how awful the season was. Here are the 5 worst parts of Squid Game season 2 that made it almost unwatchable.
Squid Game Season 2 Has No Added Value
The biggest mystery of the show is the organization that runs it. Season 1 gave us some clues, showed us some faces, and even solved the mystery behind Player 001's history. And it was only natural to wait for the rest to be revealed in the next season. But instead we got another round of games and a pointless boat search.
“I was hoping for the games to be a side plot and instead the main focus being uncovering the organization behind it, that's why it was such a massive let down. It was all about the games. One season of that was fine, another one was just boring,” Redditor IAmAgainst said.
Bad Acting Was an Unpleasant Surprise in Squid Game 2
Now this may be a hot take for some of you, but we have a lot of Reddit supporters on this one. Many fans of the show pointed out how little they cared about the fate of the new characters. Of course, it wasn't just the actors who failed, it was also a pretty bad script to work with in the first place.
“The acting compared to last season is abysmal. Even the old woman’s acting is so over the top it just feels disingenuous. The writers, directors, and actors (except those from season 1) did a great job of making us not care about any of their fates. It all feels like an SNL parody,” Redditor ChipsNSa1sa said.
Lack of Action Killed the New Season
The first half of episode 1 feels terribly long, almost forcing you to turn it off because it's just that boring. But the second half of the episode finally gets good, with all the chasing of the salesman and his crazy stunt with the bread. Nevertheless, the remaining episodes were all about talking, with almost nothing else going on, except for the games.
And yes, you can say that great dialog can save the show, but many fans agree that the writing was so bad that even if there was an attempt to show the depth of the characters, it failed.
Squid Game 2 Resorted to Repetitive Plotlines
This is actually more of a side effect of the previous point. Because when you have nothing to do and nothing to show the viewer, you try to stall.
And in the case of Squid Game Season 2, the only thing you could be sure of was that no matter what happened, there would be a vote, and the players would stay in the game.
Squid Game Season 2 Finale Was the Worst
I don't think I was the only one who was confused at the end of the last episode. The build up was good and I even started to expect things. There were dreams that Gi-hun would confront the Front Man or at least find out who he was. But instead, we saw him suffer another painful loss…
