How I Met Your Father Fans Not Holding Back Their Disapproval of Meredith
Did Meredith return to break Jesse's heart again?
Season 2 of How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is currently airing, and more and more viewers are tuning in to follow Hilary Duff's Sophie on her journey to find her true love and the future father of her son. Just like its predecessor, the beloved sitcom How I Met Your Mother, HIMYF knows how to take its fans on an emotional rollercoaster ride. And that's not the only similarity.
Fans have drawn parallels between the characters of the two shows. In particular, the relationship between Sophie and her boyfriend Jesse Walker, an aspiring musician, is very similar to the story of Ted Mosby and Robin Scherbatsky.
That's why many fans resent anyone who gets in the way of Sophie and Jesse's budding romance.
Especially when it comes to Meredith, Jesse's ex-girlfriend who broke his heart when she publicly turned down his marriage proposal. Now Meredith is back in Jesse's life to probably do the same thing. Or so fans think. While Meredith seemed to have some genuine feelings for Jesse after her comeback, many fans couldn't help but notice that something wasn't quite right with the pop star. And last week's episode proved that they were right.
"Seeing how truly awful [Meredith] is and that she doesn't even deserve a guy like Jesse (imo) is pretty shocking," one of the fans wrote in the Episode 2 discussion.
Other fans agreed that Meredith didn't deserve Jesse and was a terrible character. Such opinions came after the flashback that explained why Sid hated Meredith. It turned out that Jesse's girlfriend faked being sick just to get out of his recital. While this may not seem like a big deal, fans feel that it showed that she had no respect or care for Jesse and his passions. After all, Jesse was extremely excited about the recital and without hesitation abandoned his relationship with Sophie and his sister to follow Meredith on tour.
"Meredith is wasting everyone's time," one of the fans wrote on Reddit. "There are no redeeming qualities in Meredith so far."
Many fans shared the sentiment, emphasizing how much they would like to see Meredith disappear from Jesse's life and the beloved sitcom. However, even those who hate Meredith agree that Leighton Meester's performance is simply impeccable.
"Got to hand it to Leighton, she's very good in this type of roles," a fan commented.
