The Modern Family finale has become a beautiful torture for the cast.

Since its premiere in 2009, Modern Family has become one of the most popular television shows of the decade. Today, almost three years after the show's finale, fans still love and miss the beloved members of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Delgado clan and have re-watched the entire series for what seems like a million times.

And the feeling is mutual.

The stars of Modern Family wish they never had to say goodbye to their fans, too. That's what Sofia Vergara said while talking about the show's finale. The Gloria Delgado-Pritchett actress added that the cast had become a real family in the 11 years they've worked together and it was really sad to go their separate ways.

Modern Family Had a Chance to Do This Character Justice — And Blew It Completely

Julie Bowen and Ariel Winter echoed the sentiment, expressing their love for their on-screen family. While Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy, wrote an emotional message on social media thanking all the fans and crew, the actress who plays Claire Dunphy was the most emotional on the set of the finale, Ed O'Neil revealed.

"I thought [Julie Bowen] was going to have to be sedated and carried out," he recalled.

Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who portrayed fan-favorite fictional couple Cameron and Mitchell for over a decade, broke fans' hearts by sharing photos from their first day on the set of Modern Family.

The kids of the show, Rico Rodriguez and Nolan Gould, who started playing the roles of Manny Delgado and Luke Dunphy when they were just 9 and 11 years old respectively, shared a very similar sentiment as they thanked their co-stars and the crew. Both actors were quick to point out that their characters and the fictional family they grew up with over 11 years made them the people they are today.

However, not all cast members were happy with how their characters' arcs concluded. Sarah Hyland said that Haley Dunphy could have ended up as more than just a mother. The actress wanted Haley to become a "bad*** stylist or a brand mogul or something like that." But having said that, the actress added that she was grateful for the journey she had with Modern Family.

Ty Burrell, who played Phil Dunphy, probably had the best description of the show's finale that his co-stars would undoubtedly agree with.

"It was like a beautiful torture," the actor said.
