Why does everyone love Daemon in House of the Dragon, despite him being… well, definitely not a good person? Let's see what fans have to say.

Daemon Targaryen appears to be bathing in fan love no matter how malicious the things he is up to are. Whether he murders his wife, or tries to flirt with his own underage nephew, or even slices someone's face in half — Daemon is still cherished by the fans.

How on earth does he do that? After all, pretty much every character in House of the Dragon has something to love or despise them for, but in Daemon's case, people seem to only see things that are lovable.

Who's Going to Die in House of the Dragon Finale?

Fans on Reddit tried to unpack the phenomenon of the love Daemon enjoys and the reasons he gets away with so much.

One of the reasons seems quite obvious.

"Honestly this is it – charisma. Also, Matt's casting is spot on, George RR Martin likes Daemon, the rogue but lovable prince trope has always won masses and a subjective opinion: the character is self-aware, like he doesn't spend time trying to tell you he is a good person, he is also not judgemental and almost always saves the day even if it means he would be the bad guy," Redditor puppy-pupperson argued.

Another things that is enchanting about Daemon is his attitude to what's going on around him.

"[H]e seems to understand the absurdity of everything going on around him with all his outbursts of laughing and sass," said Redditor ashiballashi.

Some people also think that Daemon is "the only sane person in the room," while also being "the only person who can take a joke". When Ser Criston Cole reminds me of how he knocked him off a horse during the tournament, Daemon does not get offended but just laughs it off. Besides, his reactions — from face-palms to grins — are sometimes very much like the viewers'.

Biggest House of the Dragon Star Hates His Own Character

Episode 9 did not feature Daemon, but the tenth and final episode of season 1 is going to focus on team Black — and the rogue prince in particular. However, the finale might be truly dramatic given that the civil war between the Targaryens has started, and no one seems to be willing to give up on it anymore.

House of the Dragon finale premieres on HBO Max on Sunday, October 23.
