We know that you all love to hate on the Dursleys, but what if they don't deserve it? Hold your fire, take a chill pill, and let us elaborate!

One fan believes that we might have been too harsh on Harry's family from hell, and he has the perfect explanation as to why. Don't worry, he is not a Muggle, it really does make sense.

Hot take: the Dursleys might have been so bad because they were under the influence of the Dark Lord himself. No, we don't mean the Imperius curse.

Think about it – the Dursleys lived under the same roof as Harry for 16 years (give or take a few summers), and Harry was a Horcrux the entire time.

The Dursleys are Muggles, so Voldemort's soul might have had a deeper impact on them (which would explain why all the wizarding folk in Harry's life weren't as bad around him).

Horcruxes do have a horrible effect on people. At 11, Ginny almost became a murderer because she was possessed by Tom Riddle's diary (which was later revealed to be a Horcrux).

Slytherin's locket was the reason why Ron picked a fight with Harry and left in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (and it also made Hermione and Harry feel more on edge).

They were all wizards, and they were still suffering from the Horcruxes' power (even though they could sometimes fight it). What if the Dursleys didn't have that luxury and that was why they were so awful to Harry?

Sure, one could argue that they were the worst even before Harry was even born, but that is just speculation.

We know that Lily and Petunia didn't get along after the latter found out that Lily was a witch, but we only saw bits and pieces from Snape's memories.

Are we really going to trust the person who thought he was the victim and not the bad guy? Let's not.

The Dursleys are definitely not the nicest people, and they fear and despise all things magical, but there is a chance that Harry's childhood may have been a little better if he hadn't been a Horcrux.

We are not letting the Dursleys off the hook for the terrible Little Whinging experience Harry had to endure for years (0 stars out of 5, would not recommend), but we are saying that Voldemort's soul could have been partly to blame.
