But the writers took the wrong approach from the start.

Summary:

  • Even though General Hospital 's recent storylines have been a notch more interesting than before, some of them have been dragging on for months.
  • Viewers weren't happy with Molly's infertility arc to begin with, but the longer it goes on, the more annoying it becomes.
  • However, there was a way to make the story much better, fans believe. All the writers had to do was give the arc to another character.

Aside from Port Charles' superficial baby boom, the primary reason viewers hated Molly's infertility arc was because it was so out of character for her to want a child in the first place. Coupled with Molly's painful recast and the introduction of NuMolly, who failed to impress viewers, this storyline was doomed from the start.

Although the concept was not bad, the whole story with Molly never made much sense. However, viewers had to make peace with it and go with the flow. Now that the fans had suggested another character who would have fit the story much better, they could never look at Molly the same way again.

General Hospital Molly’s Pregnancy Theory

One of the key elements that the writers should have removed from Molly's pregnancy arc in order to make it successful, fans feel, is Molly herself. Although the struggle with fertility is an issue that many women face and is important to many, it just didn't make much sense with Molly and got even weirder with her sister's involvement.

The character who would actually benefit from such a story is Brooklyn Lynn Quartermaine, and the more fans discussed this option, the more it made sense. First of all, unlike Molly, Brooklyn has already had her chance to feel what it's like to be a mother with Bailey, and she loved it.

Molly and TJ, on the other hand, would have been perfect representatives for all millennials who are childless by choice and want to see more people with those principles on TV. While it's clear that General Hospital doesn't often cater to younger audiences, this would have been a perfect opportunity.

Also, Brooklyn is a little older than Molly and would have been around 35 when she and Chase tried to use. While that age is not a cutoff for childbirth, there are a lot of women in that age group who are dealing with similar issues, and they would have found her experience more relatable.

Plus, since Chase is younger and probably has no issues on his side, it would have given their couple some much-needed growth and a real reason for drama, if the writers needed to add any.

While there is no way to salvage the storyline now, this situation could be an important lesson for the writers of General Hospital in the future. Whether you think they'll learn from this mistake or continue down the same path, be sure to tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC so you don't miss another episode.
