One of the longest running American soap operas is General Hospital. It's been on the air for more than 60 years, and it looks like it's going to be on the air for at least twice that long. Our grandparents followed the lives of GH's main characters, then the legacy was passed on to our parents and finally to us and even our children.
As the genre of soap opera suggests, the show follows multiple main stories simultaneously, intervening main characters' lives with a lot of side characters’ stories as well. Despite the huge cast, there are always some characters that are more important than all others.
One such character is undoubtedly the mob boss Sonny, brilliantly portrayed on the show for more than 30 years by Maurice Benard.
Recently, the show's head writers have changed, and with the new storylines, fans are now worried that the era of the actor and his character may be coming to an end.
“I can't help but feel like his time on the show may be coming to an end. The way the storyline has been progressing, with Sonny alienating himself from the people that he is close to, and almost everyone turning against him and wanting him to go to prison, it just seems like the perfect setup for him to make a dramatic exit,” Redditor Street-Replacement89 said.
Despite the many disturbing things he has done over the course of the show, including some really terrible stuff, the fans still can't believe the injustice of the ones he always wished the best for (in his own way). This is especially true for Laure and Anna, who are ready to see him in prison after everything he did for them.
