General Hospital Fans May Be Done With Carly, but She’s Right About This One Thing
Heartbreaking: The worst person you know just made a great point.
Summary:
- General Hospital is an ABC soap opera that has been on the air since the early 60s and is still going strong.
- Carly Corinthos has been with the show for a good half of its run, but her character has been ruined over the past decade.
- Although fans rarely find themselves supporting Carly, her devotion to her children is one of the things they applaud her for.
If there is one thing everyone knows about Sonny Corinthos, aside from his bipolar disorder, it is his amazing fertility. Throughout his three-decade run on General Hospital, he has fathered more children than anyone can count, but he hasn't always been a father they deserve.
From shooting his own son to outright neglect of several children depending on his relationship with their mother, Sonny's list of crimes against his own children is almost endless. What's worse, it's only getting bigger, and Carly is the only thing standing in the way of him potentially hurting more.
Why Is Sonny Acting Like This?
Anyone who has watched General Hospital long enough knows that Sonny is very dependent on his medication. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he is prone to manic episodes that push him to test the limits and do the most dangerous things, not only to himself, but to others around him.
The storyline was inspired by the actor who portrays Sonny, Maurice Benard, who has lived with bipolar disorder for decades and knows how important the right medication is in treating bipolar patients. The moment Sonny stops taking his pills or his prescription is changed by one force or another, he becomes dangerous.
Although he is still a father to several young children, including Carly's daughter Donna, he may now be separated from some of them for the time being. Already all too familiar with the way Sonny acts off his meds, Carly is there to protect her daughter, and it may be the first time in years that fans will find themselves on her side.
As a Port Charles queen who can do no wrong in the eyes of the writers, even though she has committed a number of crimes, Carly is often met with exasperated sighs from the audience. In this case, however, the praise is universal at the moment. And even more, the fans are ready to side with Carly when the custody battle comes.
Whether it comes to that and Carly has to face Sonny in court to fight for full custody of Donna, or they find a way to settle their issues peacefully, we'll have to wait and see. Tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC to never miss another episode.
