The show continues to repeat itself.

There is nothing worse than watching your favorite show and feeling like you have seen it all before. The repetition of the same cycle has its place in showing toxic romance, but otherwise, viewers will always crave for something new. Unfortunately, soap operas don't seem to be able to provide it.

It's no secret that daytime TV works from a variety of clichés, but usually they blend together to create a somewhat unique path for each character. General Hospital, which has been on the air for more than 60 years, is no exception. However, the longer the show goes on, the more fans worry about the same patterns the writers give the characters to suffer through.

General Hospital Addiction Storyline

It's understandable that for any soap to work, it has to find ways to make the characters suffer. While General Hospital isn't afraid to kill someone off to create drama or have its characters break all sorts of laws, that's not the only way to make things messy. One of the show's most reliable methods is to make a character addicted to some sort of substance.

Looking at Hamilton Finn now, it doesn't seem like he'll necessarily go back to his old ways after a sip of champagne. If anything, fans find the whole situation exaggerated and ridiculous at best. However, the comeback of the addiction theme as a whole sends all the wrong signals to the fandom and sets them back a few years.

By 2020, the show has already exhausted every single addiction storyline known to man, and it's wearing viewers out in no time. From Neil Byrne's opioid overdose death to poor Sasha's torture into cocaine addiction, viewers have had enough of their favorite characters willingly giving their lives away to a variety of substances.

Hopefully this whole thing with Finn falling back into his old habits is just a false alarm that he will be able to overcome without it dragging on for years. But if not, the fans are already begging the writers to stop bringing back this one overdone and repetitive arc. Besides, Finn was never an alcoholic to begin with, and now the change seems too abrupt.

One thing fans will like about this unnecessary relapse is the chance to get Liz out of the relationship that fans never really approved of. With the two of them already fighting, the breakup may come even sooner than expected. If you want to see it first, be sure to tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
