Still missing Firefly? There's something that might fill that void.

2002 was the year of the release of the already legendary Firefly. During its short life on television, the series managed to gain cult status, an army of loyal fans and an honorable place in the list of the best science fiction projects.

However, the love of critics and viewers could not save Firefly from a quick cancellation. The Fox network expected sky-high ratings, but its bosses interfered with the filming process and even showed episodes in a different order than the creators intended. As a result, the show was axed after its first season.

If you still haven't come to terms with Firefly's short life and have already watched its one and only season a hundred times, then you should pay attention to a series that went unnoticed by many viewers, but definitely deserves the attention of sci-fi fans – Dark Matter, released in 2015.

What Is Dark Matter About?

Six strangers wake up on an abandoned ship in space. None of them can remember who they are or where they came from. They rediscover their skills and abilities, search for a common language, and try to understand their purpose.

The strangers choose numbers from one to six instead of names. While exploring the ship, they encounter a female android who unexpectedly shows aggression towards them. As they try to figure out what happened, the characters learn that five of them are not the most ordinary people.

Dark Matter Is Gripping Sci-Fi With a Strong Psychological Aspect

Dark Matter, based on the comics of the same name, lasted longer than Firefly – three seasons. The series can be recommended not only to fans of the show with Nathan Fillion, but also to anyone who loves strong sci-fi dramas: the writers managed to create extremely dynamic relationships between seemingly simple characters.

The screenwriters were comic book writers themselves, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, the series was developed by the creators of another prestigious project – Stargate, and was sheltered by the Syfy channel.

The success of Dark Matter lies in the intrigue of the plot, which captivates the viewer from the first frames, and the psychological authenticity of the relationships between the characters, which even some feature films do not have.

Where to Stream Dark Matter?

All three seasons of Dark Matter are available to watch on Prime Video.
