Bridgerton Fan Theory Suggests A Polin Twist As Sadistic As It Is Beautiful
As if we haven't suffered enough.
With Bridgerton season 3 set to focus on the show's new Disney prince and princess, Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, it's safe to say that the drama isn't over, and those hoping for a sunshine and rainbows love story may want to brace themselves for an emotional rollercoaster.
With the Lady Whistledown reveal being the cliffhanger of the Netflix series' first season, many characters, including Colin, are still unaware that it is Penelope who is hiding behind the identity of the dastardly author. Fans are brainstorming about when the secret will be revealed and how dramatic the repercussions will be.
One fan theory is that things will not go exactly as they did in the books. According to Redditor GCooperE, the reveal may come at the most dramatic and uncomfortable moment for Penelope, who will certainly appreciate the scene as a writer, but hate it as a human being. Yes, the theory goes, Colin will learn the truth about her right at their wedding.
"There'd be some deliciously tragic dramatic irony, that Pen finds herself married to Colin, a Bridgerton at last, but in the absolute worst way possible. If you were a writer, and you had one character who wanted a single thing above all else, the temptation to give it to them, but in a way that causes them complete misery, would be so strong," the Redditor suggested.
In the books, the revelation is not as dramatic as the fan theory suggests, with the two discussing Penelope's little secret in a carriage scene before the proposal. The carriage exchange quickly turns into something much steamier, but fans believe the Netflix series will use the scene after the wedding to have Colin and Penelope finally sort things out.
Bridgerton Fans' Worst Fear Confirmed? Set Spoilers Suggest More Drama at the Wedding
However, the wedding will be a perfect moment for the show to go into full drama queen mode and toy with fans' hearts by having Colin walk out or having a scene about Penelope's secret identity.
In the books, young Bridgerton has a problem with Penelope's Lady Whistledown alter ego because he is actually jealous of her accomplishments as a secret writer, while he has done nothing as the third son in the family.
Still, it's unclear how (and if) the show will change the reveal, and worst of all, fans don't even know how long they'll have to wait. Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the third season of Bridgerton.
