Across The Spider-Verse Tops The First Movie Despite Its Biggest Problem
The movie seems absolutely perfect in every way imaginable, with only one thing spoiling the experience.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premiered a little less than two weeks ago, but it has already managed to become a huge success, just as critics and fans predicted.
The second installment of Miles Morales' adventures received outstanding reviews, with many claiming that it was even better than its 2018 predecessor.
And just like that, the movie managed to financially surpass Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in only about 12 days since its release.
The first movie was also highly praised by both critics and audiences, earning $384.3 million worldwide, but Across the Spider-Verse managed to beat that in record time, currently earning $390 million worldwide.
Fans can't get enough praise for the film, calling it the best comic book movie they've ever seen, admiring its visual style, animation, story, characters and seemingly every aspect of the animated film.
It just felt fresh, unique, and "special," which is more than can be said for most superhero movies these days.
They also say that Across the Spider-Verse will definitely win at least one Oscar, just like the first film, which won in the Best Animated Feature category in 2019.
However, with such unanimous praise and seemingly flawless in every way, one thing has tainted viewers' impressions a bit and can be called the film's biggest (if perhaps only) problem.
Minor spoilers ahead.
The fact that the movie ends on a cliffhanger, with Miles temporarily stuck in another dimension and Gwen assembling a team to rescue him, left many fans feeling that the movie was rather incomplete.
They say that after such a great adventure, it is almost unbearable to wait almost a year for the (presumably) final part of the trilogy to be released.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
