3 Reasons Jon Snow GoT Sequel Will End Up Being a Flop, According to Reddit
Game of Thrones fans have been buzzing about the Jon Snow sequel ever since the news came the show was in production.
But we still know little about it, with cinephiles keep discussing if this or that character could return – like Grey Worm for instance. Or could the sequel solve the GoT biggest mystery about Jon Snow being Targaryen – if you forgot, his real name is Aegon and he learned about it in the series' finale. The braveheart was exiled from Westeros and set off on a journey North of the Wall with the Wildlings to leave his old life behind.
How Does Rhaenyra Targaryen die in George RR Martin's Books?
An article by The Hollywood Reporter published this this summer said that Kit Harington "is attached to reprise the role should a series move forward."
But when approached later this year by MTV's Josh Horowitz, Harington said "The only thing I'll say is that I know nothing about it."
GoT enthusiasts on Reddit believe the much-anticipated Jon Snow sequel could be a flop. Some commentators are not really sure what scope there is for Jon Snow. As they recall, the man didn't want anything, he didn't have any real ambition and the White Walkers are dead. "Of all characters Arya would be the most interesting with a range to explore," one of the comments reads.
Emilia Clarke' s Idea of Daenerys Ending is Way Better Than the Real Thing
Other redditors say the fact that the series is marketed as a spinoff is dangerous because after the initial reception is positive, HBO will introduce all the other surviving characters and carry on with their stories. So we'll end up with GoT Season 9, which will have nothing to do with a show focused on Jon Snow. And the HBO guys will try to mend the much criticized GoT Season 8.
"Jon's ending of going beyond the wall was one of the only things that I was happy about with the ending to GoT. It made sense for his character and it gave a sense of peace for a man that was pulled every which way for the series," one of the fans says.
And the biggest concern is that HBO will just mess up and throw in some more awful writing for the sake of making a quick buck. These kinds of concerns are shared by rather large group of fans, who fear the showrunners might try to create a remake (of sorts) of GoT's rather disappointing ending – rather than focus on Jon Snow's further development as a character.
Some folks rejected the idea of a Jon Snow-centered sequel altogether. "I can't imagine a new series with Jon without Arya, Sansa, and Ghost," as one of the Redditors put it.
One commentator hopes we ourselves won't "ruin it by developing our own storylines and exposition only to be disappointed when "our" version doesn't meet our overblown expectations." And this sounds like a wise warning.
