The director was forced to change the original ending because the studio found it too confusing.

It is no exaggeration to call Zack Snyder one of the most controversial directors in modern cinema. Fans consider him a genius and literally dissect his movies frame by frame, and studios are handing him major projects and leadership of the MCU.

At the same time, critics write devastating reviews of his work and talk about meaningless references and allusions.

But be that as it may, almost everyone knows Snyder's style. The director has established himself as an amazing visionary and a true fan of cinema. He has always done what he loves, despite criticism and failure.

Recently, the director admitted that he still wants to release a director's cut of Sucker Punch with an ending that the studio rejected because it was too incomprehensible:

“I've never gotten around to doing the director's cut. I still plan to at some point. […] We tested it [the original ending] and the studio thought it was too weird, so we changed it.”

According to the original script, Babydoll does not remain seated after the lobotomy, but stands up and finds herself on stage singing a song, and her murdered friends join her.

Sucker Punch can be considered the director's most personal movie. It was based on Snyder’s old screenplay about a girl who is forced to perform erotic dances while imagining being in another world.

Snyder wrote the screenplay for Sucker Punch himself, produced and directed the movie. He even participated in the creation of the soundtrack – several popular songs were re-recorded for him with the lead actress' vocals.

The result is a movie that mixes the idea of madness and liberation with comic book imagery and the main characters’ battles with dragons, zombie-fascists and robots.

But Snyder's idea was not appreciated. Soon after its release, critics destroyed the movie in their reviews.

Many viewers were dissatisfied as well. For those who expected a lot of action, Sucker Punch turned out to be too complex and dark. And those who wanted to see intellectual cinema complained about the abundance of fights and shootings.

The movie did not pay off at the box office and became one of the biggest flops of 2011.

Over time, however, it developed a cult of fans who discuss the hidden meaning of the story. In fact, you can search endlessly for small details, as every object and inscription shown in the frame has a metaphorical meaning.

And the finale of the movie makes you wonder – who was the main character of the whole story?
