Your Favorite House of the Dragon Meme Actually Drives the Actors Insane
It’s time to pick a different drink of choice.
Summary:
- House of the Dragon became an instant hit the moment it premiered on HBO.
- Since then, the show's stars, Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy, have been guests of many media outlets.
- During one of the interviews, Cooke and D’Arcy shared their favorite drinks and it became a viral meme that they weren’t happy about.
While mainstream media celebrities have to fight for every role in order to get some recognition from the audience, Internet fame is much more random and heavily based on the virality of the content you put out there. Once something goes viral, it's almost impossible to stop the hype train or change its direction.
Every once in a while, the two worlds collide and celebrities end up going viral on the Internet. Sometimes it has to do with some sort of scandal, but more often than not, they end up becoming memes. What the social media crowd doesn't think about is how easy it is for the actor to get lost behind the meme.
Why Does Olivia Cooke Hate the Negroni Meme?
Back in 2022, during the House of the Dragon promotion, Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy sat down for a video for the official Max YouTube channel. The actors played a 'Get to Know Me' game and answered some questions to get to know each other and introduce themselves to new viewers.
Though the moment discussing Negroni Sbagliato, Emma D'Arcy's favorite cocktail, was minor compared to the rest of the video, it went viral and became a meme. Cooke's 'stunning' reaction spread like wildfire from one social media platform to the next, and like every online trend, it was eventually forgotten.
Though not many people reference the Negroni joke anymore, and the actress' emotions have since calmed down, she shared her initial thoughts on going viral in the recent Entertainment Weekly interview while promoting House of the Dragon season 2.
“I did hate it for a very long time. I was in the pub. A woman opened the door for me and she said with a thick Spanish accent, ‘Stunnin’!’ I was just like, Oh my God. Over a decade’s worth of work reduced to a single word in my lexicon,” the actress said.
D'Arcy didn't seem too thrilled about the situation either, admitting that it's not easy to find the right reaction to becoming an Internet sensation through a meme. Clearly, both actors would much rather be celebrated for their talent and TV success than reduced to a 5-second clip from an interview.
Luckily, with the second season of House of the Dragon just a month away, viewers are closer than ever to seeing the leaders of Team Black and Team Green on their screens again. So buckle up and get ready to tune in to HBO on June 16th to not miss another season of the Targaryens.
