There’s no way it could work.

If you have seen Young Sheldon after The Big Bang Theory, you probably believe that somehow the prequel to the iconic sitcom ended up being superior. Whether that is the quality of writing, the more relatable family setup, or the lack of cringey laughing tracks, it’s hard to tell, but it worked, and that’s all that matters.

Now that the show is over, many fans of the universe suggest who could be next in line for a prequel of their own. I, however, think that Young Sheldon should be the first and last prequel The Big Bang Theory has gotten, and neither Young Howard, nor Young Leonard or Young Penny would get the same positive response.

Is There Going to Be Another The Big Bang Theory Spinoff?

While it doesn't look like the studio is moving forward with the development right now, about a year ago there was talk of another The Big Bang Theory spinoff in the works on HBO. Still, no one really knows what the show will be about, but I hope it will take the story forward a few years and not take us back to the past.

First of all, as we saw with Young Sheldon, it's not a good idea to do a spinoff about a kid unless it's a Disney show. Young Sheldon was saved by the writers' flexibility and willingness to shake things up and spotlight the entire Cooper family, but that doesn't mean any network would want to repeat the original mistake.

And even if they did, who would they pick?

Young Leonard's past would have been downright depressing, given how he was constantly bullied by his own mother. The same goes for young Amy and all the rules she had to follow. Young Howard, on the other hand, would have gone through the drama of being raised by a single mother.

Almost every other character on the show didn't have it so good back then. Penny and Raj's backstories would probably have been the most entertaining, but The Big Bang Theory didn't bother to give Penny a last name, so it's unlikely that much thought was given to her family life. With Raj, the production would spend too much on filming in India.

Even though Young Sheldon was a great throwback to the '90s, the concept should be one and done. The rest of the story will be told through Georgie and Mandy in their own spinoff, and fans of The Big Bang Theory would be happy to get a glimpse of the bright future instead.
