It's no secret to Young Sheldon fans that the spin-off of the iconic The Big Bang Theory has enough plot holes that change some aspects of the adult Sheldon's life.

Although the original idea for the spin-off was unrelated to the sitcom, it was retooled to serve as Sheldon's origin story.

However, despite supposedly existing in the same reality, Young Sheldon has contradicted the established canon of The Big Bang Theory countless times in its six years on the air.

One of the biggest plot holes in the spin-off is an entire character – Paige Swanson. She is Sheldon's rival, who plays a rather important role in his life.

Therefore, fans wonder why she never appeared or was even mentioned in the original series.

Some fans believe that Paige will eventually die, which would explain her absence, but the introduction of a new character in Young Sheldon may allow Paige to be taken out of the series and Sheldon's life more painlessly.

A new character – Tonya, Pastor Jeff's niece, — is suspiciously similar to Paige. The latter is a rebel at heart, which allowed her to quickly become friends with Sheldon's twin sister, Missy.

Tonya also has a rebellious nature, which makes her a likely replacement for Paige, first for Missy and then for Sheldon.

Paige and Missy embark on a dangerous multi-state road trip, which could be the catalyst for Paige and the Coopers to gradually drift apart.

No one would be surprised if Missy and Sheldon's parents forbid Missy and Sheldon to communicate with Paige after the trip.

This would directly push them to communicate with Tonya, and Paige would simply disappear from their lives over time, which would perfectly explain her absence from The Big Bang Theory.

However, this may be complicated by the fact that Paige is one of the most popular and beloved characters among fans.

This situation puts the show's creators in a dilemma – either abandon the popular character for the sake of respecting the canon, or admit now that this is a plot hole and stop relying heavily on the original series.

The latter option, however, could could trigger a wave of criticism from fans who have been following Sheldon's fate since the days of TBBT.

The final two episodes of Young Sheldon season 6 will air on May 18.
