You Won't Believe How The Shining Child Star Looks Today At 50 Years Old
His life did not take the turn one would expect.
The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick, was released in 1980, but it still has the same effect on viewers as it did 40 years ago.
This film became a staple not only in the horror genre, but in cinematography in general, which many directors today allude to.
One of the actors' screen presence shook the audience the most, thanks to his young age at the time of filming. Danny Lloyd could have had a very bright future as an actor, but he chose a different path.
Back in the 80's, Lloyd did not know or fully understand the success of the movie he was starring in.
He was shielded by the director and crew from the possible trauma of being in such a scary movie at such a vulnerable age, and was sure they were making a family drama.
It was only in his early teens that Danny Lloyd first saw The Shining in its entirety and was able to appreciate his own performance.
"I don't do many interviews. But when I do, I try to make it clear, The Shining was a good experience. I look back on it fondly," Lloyd said to The Guardian.
As good as his experience on the set was, it did not make Lloyd more interested in acting. He continued to try out for a few roles, but never got one that could compare to the success of The Shining.
No wonder a kid gets bored with auditions and loses interest in acting.
Danny Lloyd's parents were supportive and stood by their son while he made his own career choices in a completely different field.
Today, Danny Lloyd is a biology professor at a university in Kentucky, but he has agreed to return to the big screen one more time in a cameo for The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep in 2019.
Now in his 50s, Lloyd seems content with his life out of the spotlight, happily married with four children.
Today, the only thing that reminds him of his former acting career is the teasing of his older children.
If you want to revisit The Shining on a movie night, you can stream it on Netflix or MAX.
