Yes, Jensen Ackles Could Have Starred in Fifty Shades of Grey
But he chose to stick with Supernatural. It's unclear whether fans love that choice or lowkey regret it.
Seven years after the premiere of the first Fifty Shades of Grey movie, here is some news you clearly would not have expected back in 2015: Jensen Ackles ( Dean Winchester from Supernatural ) was actually considered for the role.
There's Something Weird About Dean in The Winchesters
Ackles revealed this little fun fact during the Supernatural fan convention in Phoenix, and the most surprising thing about it was how eager his wife, Danneel, was to put him in the movie.
"The executive producer of that movie came into my house and said 'Would you be interested in this?'" Ackles recalled. "And I said, 'Yeah, I guess', I haven't read the books, but my wife is nodding yes... which is weird."
However, the reason for Ackles not ending up hitting big screens as Christian Grey was that things did not work out with the Supernatural production. The actor added that he doubts he would have got the role, adding that the executive producer was probably simply curious.
Some fans joked how "we almost had it all", but applauded Ackles' decision to stick to Supernatural. One person even suggested that taking part in Fifty Shades of Grey would have ruined Ackles' career given that the movie ended up receiving mixed reviews and deemed cringeworthy by many people.
The Christian Grey part ended up going to Jamie Dornan, with Dakota Johnson securing the role of Anastacia. The movie was released in 2015, followed by two sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, in 2017 and 2018. Despite their commercial success (the series grossed over $1.32 billion worldwide), the reception was largely negative.
