Yellowstone Season 5 Will Have John Dutton Repenting for His Sins
"Power has a price."
The latest season of Yellowstone hints at a power shift, according to a teaser that debuted prior to the season five premiere on November 13. The trailer for season 5 of Yellowstone reveals a giant power struggle that is on the brink of getting messy. Even more shocking, it suggests John Dutton is finally prepared to repent for his sins.
Kevin Costner released the teaser for Yellowstone season five in late September. By then, it was still a couple of months until the fifth season officially arrived yet it already got fanatics stir-crazy with possibilities.
"Must break my wife's heart to look down and see what a mess I've made of this family," John Dutton confesses as his voice is heard over the highlights of season five.
During the opening moments, Dutton is sworn in as governor of Montana. As such, the fifth season is anticipated to become political as Dutton looks to sway power through public office.
It's a little shocking JD ended up on this career path, but then again politics are means for getting what you demand. Or, making amends with others you have wronged or hurt in the past. If the season five teaser is any indication, Dutton may actually feel guilty for his wrongdoings. It's clear that JD is reminiscing about his late wife, Evelyn, when he speaks of the sacrifices she made to keep the family together. Now, it seems John is destined for the same path.
Yellowstone Has Never Lived Up to the Promise of Its First Season
The season four finale of Yellowstone concluded with Dutton reluctantly campaigning for governor. However, it wasn't certain (until now) that Dutton was successful in his bid for governor. Thus, as he's being sworn into office, the trailer foreshadows plenty of upcoming action and drama.
"You have no friends in this building, John. You're gonna have to bring your own," former Governor Perry warns JD inside the state capitol. Moments later, Dutton's firing all of his senior aides and department heads.
Then, Governor Dutton stirs up the pot again, this time seated at his desk: "Signing this order is a declaration of war," a political advisor warns Dutton, armed with a pen. "We're already at war," Dutton growls back before signing the declaration.
There is no doubt that season five of Yellowstone will be full of drama and intrigue. There is a lot of unsettled business, including the persistent pressure for Dutton to share his ranch with the Broken Rock Reservation and other developers. For this reason, JD will either need to dive deeper into his business and political aspirations or finally attend to the needs of his family. Regardless, it appears based on the season 5 teaser that he is finally ready to make amends.
