Yellowstone’ Kelly Reilly Gets Candid on Stepping Away From Beth Role
The magic of a transformation.
Summary:
- Taylor Sheridan 's Yellowstone is one of the most successful Paramount Plus TV shows to date.
- Beth Dutton, one of the show's female antagonists, is one of the reasons people either love it or hate it.
- Although Kelly Reilly acknowledges her overwhelming success, she believes that returning to Beth each time only makes her want to try more other projects.
While some actors are looking for a breakthrough, trying out many different characters and hoping to see at least one of them go viral on social media, others are afraid of being typecast and prefer to change their image as often as possible.
But whether you chase success or try to run from it, it comes unexpectedly and surprises everyone involved. The overnight success of Yellowstone was probably a lot to take in, but now the show's own bad girl, Kelly Reilly, has nothing but gratitude for her character.
Both gratitude and a strategy for moving forward with her career. Now that it's been announced that Yellowstone is coming to an end, it's more necessary than ever.
Where Did Kelly Reilly Star Besides Yellowstone?
No matter what you think of Beth Dutton, you have to admit that there are very few female characters as boldly written and vibrant as she is. Yes, not all of her colors are pretty, but that's what makes Beth so exciting. She has single-handedly ended the dearth of strong female antagonists and has eclipsed just about every other role in Kelly Reilly's career.
Speaking to TVLine, Reilly explained how even given all that Beth Dutton doesn't anchor her in one place, but actually motivates her to move forward and try on as many characters as she can before returning to the staple one:
“I’d just done two films <...> and I was thinking, ‘I want to fit in as many different characters as I can before I go back onto Yellowstone.’ [Doing so is a way of] keeping it alive for myself so that then, when I go back to Yellowstone, I can kind of strap Beth back on, and it feels reinvigorated because I stepped away,” she said.
While there's nothing wrong with having one character more recognizable than the rest, it's definitely admirable to see the actress continue to move from one project to another. Not only does it make her professional life more exciting, but it also gives loyal fans more wonderful stories to watch during the Yellowstone drought.
If you are interested in seeing Kelly Reilly step away from Beth Dutton for a moment and take on another, no less powerful and interesting role, be sure to check out Little Wing, which drops Wednesday, March 13 on Paramount Plus.
