Worst Grey's Anatomy Character Deserves All The Hate He Gets
When a Reddit thread about a character's best qualities turns into an ugly festival of hate towards him, you know something is wrong.
It seems that no one from the Grey's Anatomy audience has a soft spot for Owen Hunt. The head of the trauma department had (ironically) traumatized a lot of fans along with his loved ones on the show.
The main reason for so much hatred towards Owen is his behavior with the women.
Fans have clearly pointed out that he is just an abusive misogynist who has no interest in becoming a better person or treating his PTSD for 14 seasons. That's brutal, for sure, but let's look at the facts here.
He was married to Christina Yang and treated her horribly.
Owen was a huge anti-abortion activist, so when she accidentally got pregnant and wanted an abortion, he falsely pretended to be okay with it and showed his support at the doctor's office.
But then he just got angry and cheated on her. And then just kicked his wife out. And the fans didn't forget the cruel scene when he yelled at Christina and accused her of killing their baby. All this in front of a lot of people…
So, yes, not a dreamy hubby there.
Almost the same approach goes for any other woman he seems to be "in love" with.
He gets abusive and treats them like "absolute garbage," fans have noticed. But what makes fans mad is the fact that the writers don't even give his character a tiny chance to become at least a tolerable person.
"Owen s*cks so much because they don't really identify his behavior as problematic and more of just "classic owen!" like with karev and mark, they make it a point where they have to grow/improve.
Owen instead is just very sexist, [especially] with his history of how he treats women seeking abortions. He is also very single-minded when it comes to his loved ones' lives (tanking his sister's strat, trying to force his mom out of a relationship) and won't let them make decisions for themselves.
Most of the reason I hate Owen is just due to bad writing/character development," Reddit user quiet569034 said.
Well, now you have everything you need. If you get the unexpected urge to hate Owen, feel free and remember that you are not alone in your outrage.
