Wonka's Score Lands Nicely in Timothee Chalamet's Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Streak
Another hit that proves once again how big the actor's name is in Hollywood.
Summary:
- Paul King's Wonka was released on December 15 and has already become a box office hit.
- The film received high ratings thanks to Timothee Chalamet's performance.
- Chalamet has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes record and Wonka made it even better.
Not many new actors in Hollywood make it as big as Timothee Chalamet. The 27-year-old young man just took the industry by storm after his breakout performance in 2017, when he played the lead character in Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name.
Before that, he already appeared on the small screen as a minor character in several shows like Law & Order or Homeland, but we don't count them now, because after 2017, his career just skyrocketed and since then, he's been a part of almost every big movie that's been released.
The latest movie with the French-American actor in the lead is Paul King's Wonka, which was released on December 15. The movie has already become a hit, and there are many reasons for that.
First, of course, is the fact that Chalamet himself plays Wonka. Another reason is that the story of the movie is so well known and loved by both children and adults that when the new release was announced, people didn't think twice before booking tickets to the theater.
Although the new movie has been on the big screen for less than a week, Wonka has already surpassed it with $152 million at the box office after its first weekend. And that's considering the film's budget was only $125 million.
The new Wonka also looks good on Rotten Tomatoes with an 84% score from critics. And that's great news for Chalamet's record on the site. The thing is, many of his movies have scores of 70% and better, and that's even including his earliest works.
Timothee Chalamet's Best Films, According to Rotten Tomatoes
Wonka with its 84% from critics (for now) will take the honorable seventh place in the list of Timothée Chalamet’s Rotten Tomatoes best scores. What about the other six movies that are higher in the rating?
Dune ( 2021) - 83%
This 2022 film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, became the most successful adaptation of the 1965 science fiction novel Dune. Chalamet portrayed the central character, Paul Atreides, who must go to war in order to fight for the desert planet Arrakis.
Miss Stevens (2016) - 91%
This is a dramedy that revolves around a high school teacher who needs to accompany several students on a weekend trip to a drama competition upstate. One of them is Billy Mitman, played by Chalamet. The young man has mental health issues and is portrayed as a struggling student. The movie was directed by Julia Hart.
Call Me By Your Name (2017) - 94%
The movie that started it all. The role of a young man Elio Perlman is considered to be the most iconic one in the actor's career. Well, his life is at the center of the movie while he discovers interest in another young man, the graduate teaching assistant Oliver. The role of Elio brought Chalamet his first Oscar nomination. And the movie became a cultural hit for the best portrayal of queer relationships in the 21st century.
Little Women (2019) - 95%
Greta Gerwig's Little Women is another big hit in the film industry. And while we know it's an ensemble film, it's not fair not to highlight Chalamet's role in it, as it was his absolutely charming performance and sweet appearances that turned out to be one of the highest points of the movie.
Entergalactic (2022) - 96%
The relatively new animated film Entergalactic was actually made for adults, not children, and served as a visual tie-in to Kid Cudi's eighth studio album of the same title. Critics and audiences enjoyed the brilliant visuals and style of the movie, but also appreciated that Jimmy, the film's second lead, was voiced by Chalamet.
Lady Bird (2017) - 99%
Another highly successful product of the Gerwig-Chalamet tandem. The indie film revolves around the dreamy girl, Christine McPherson, mostly referred to as Lady Bird, as she follows her dream of getting into college somewhere outside California, better on the East Coast. Chalamet plays the part of a charming bad boy Kyle Scheible, whose life becomes intertwined with Lady Bird's.
