Although "American Idol" has always marketed itself as the perfect project to launch singers into superstardom, that notion hasn't been entirely true for more than a decade.

Yes, there was a time when the winners of the reality show did go on to have successful careers, but in recent years the winners of "American Idol" have tended to fade from the public consciousness the moment their season ends. However, some of the losers have gone on to accomplish a great deal after being eliminated from the competition, and here are 10 of the best examples of losers shining brighter than winners in the long run:
