There's always hope, right?

Dr. Ethan Choi, Dr. Will Halstead, Dr. Natalie Manning, and April Sexton are just a few of the many characters that viewers of the hit NBC show Chicago Med have grown to love over the years.

However, one character that has been harder to love is Dr. Archer, played by Steven Weber. Despite his good looks, Dr. Archer has always come across as unlikable.

However, there is still hope for this character to be developed in a way that will make him more relatable and human.

Initially, Dr. Archer was portrayed as a two-dimensional character with next to none redeeming qualities. Fans couldn't relate to him, and his role in the show seemed to be limited to being the guy everyone hates.

However, fans admit that over at least the past season, Dr. Archer's character development has been somewhat happening after all, with a chance for him to become a more multi-faceted human being that fans can now root for.

Make no mistake, the criticism over this character is still overwhelming.

Fans of the medical drama view rather negatively the endless "cheap, condescending "compliments" he gives to literally everyone in the ED." After all this time, it is simply "insufferable to watch," according to fans.

While many fans are united in the hatred for the character, others see the recent episodes of Chicago Med's season 8 as providing him a much-needed and long-overdue character development.

Namely, the hard conversations he has with his son about his past and his ex-wife finally shed some light on why Dr. Archer behaves the way he does.

"I don't think he was supposed to be around this long, but when Brian Tee left, he decided to stay, so they are finally developing his character/having to flesh out character traits and background story they didn't think they'd have to," Redditor readitpaige provides a possible reason for the way Dr. Archer is portrayed.

While the above might work as some sort of excuse, Dr. Archer's character is still far from being as likeable and relatable as other main characters on Chicago Med.

There's hope that his way to winning over the hearts of fans has just begun.
