Wildest Criminal Minds Reboot Theory Is Better Than the Real Thing
Like Ellen Ripley awaking from hypersleep, fans learned heavyweight behemoth Criminal Minds will arise from its slumber in the form of a reboot.
The announcement was met with mixed feelings and much speculation. Originally airing on CBS, the series quickly amassed a loyal fanbase, reflected by its 15-season run and numerous awards from Emmys to NAACP Image Awards.
When the series ended in 2020, viewers were facing a very real, life-altering pandemic trying to establish their new normal. According to insiders, the CM reboot relies heavily on the pandemic for its storyline. While some feel their life's been put on hold, others see opportunity. In Evolution, the agents discover someone has utilized the mandated downtime to formulate and perfect a network of not just criminal minds, but criminal masterminds.
Criminal Minds: Evolution will feature nearly the entire original cast. This elite group of agents from the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit is still profiling and hunting down baddies, but there's a twist. Generally speaking, CM had a solitary UnSub working independently per episode. It seems the reboot will focus on an uber UnSub who has organized a network of serial killers. Agents will need to identify individual killers in order to find the person pulling the strings.
Speculation about the new show includes the idea that this mastermind is actually one of the agents. It stands to reason that someone trained to catch murderers would know how to get away with murder. And though the show is fictional, there have been many cases of real-life members of the law enforcement community who crossed over to the dark side.
Several perpetrators in the original series were based on real people and real crimes. It will be interesting to see if Evolution does the same. There's certainly no lack of inspiration in the annals of true crime. The new series has lofty aspirations and only time will tell whether viewers are receptive to change.
Criminal Minds: Evolution is slated to premiere on Thanksgiving Day. It will kick off with two episodes on Paramount Plus. Fans have their fingers crossed that the series will indeed be something for which to be thankful.

It was only two years ago that CM stopped filming, but things have changed so much during that time. The pandemic has changed so many things. Careers have ended, relationships have ended, many lives have ended. At the same time, there has been hope and renewal–beginnings. We wish this series and anyone who is facing uncertainty and change all the very best of beginnings.
